Temple eaves at Wild Goose Pagoda
I love colors, patterns, and symbols. This is one section of a temple that caught my eye. You just don't see something like this all that often where we live (if ever). The colors are brilliant and the symbols on the decoration are so unique. They are perfect for new ideas for letterbox stamps. In fact, many of the letterboxes I've planted around Korea are based on symbols I've seen on temples. This trip, however, I have little time to carve stamps--so I've been snapping pictures for future stamp ideas, instead. ;)
From the Large Wild Goose Pagoda--we race to the airport to catch our connecting flight to Beijing. We get caught in not one but two major traffic snarls. We think we'll surely miss our flight. Our tour guide and the driver also think this. Somehow, the jams clear and the driver hightails it (I don't even want to venture to guess how fast he drove in our seatbelt-less vehicle) to the airport. Eventually, we have the roads to ourselves and are able to enjoy the beautiful farmland scenery whirring by along the route. Occasionally, we see giant burial mounds--as big as pyramids. We also see little 'caverns' carved into the 'stepped' hillsides. I presume these are little prayer caves or something. Eventually, we reach the airport with plenty of time to catch our flight. Much of the credit for catching our flight goes to the driver. Brought back memories of the German Autobahn!
