Mis-adventures of a Letterboxer-Errant

like a tree without leaves or fruit, or a body without a soul"

Silk worm cocoon soak

Once the cocoons are sorted by 'single or double silkworms', they are soaked to soften them and to help 'extricate' the shell of the larvae. These larvae are separated out AND used for various forms of food as they're rich in vitamins & minerals. In Korea, we see these silkworm larvae being roasted on the street corners in giant iron cauldrons and people eat them up in droves. I haven't yet been that courageous to try one. Maybe in powder form, oneday. ;) Once the larvae has been removed, the remainder of the cocoon is either spun on a spinning wheel or the double cocoon is stretched.
