Hutong Entrance

Here's another gate to a hutong. Nowadays, 8 families reside in this single hutong. The drum statues at the base of the door indicate this family was a 'military' family. The number of 'beams' jutting out from above the door indicates the 'rank' of the family--in this case, the 2 beams indicates the rank is 'mid-range'. We saw up to four of these 'beams' extending from above doors. I found these old hutong quite interesting--it may just be because I'm an architecture buff. Who knows?
