Mis-adventures of a Letterboxer-Errant

All Saints Day Eve events

Wouldn't you know it?

In lieu of the traditional method of celebrating the eve of All Saints Day, we opted to spend it among the pillars' shadows casting themselves upon Stone Henge high atop the banks of the Columbia River. We savored the tailfeathers of rooster rock in the driving rainstorm. Then we hightailed it through Echo Valley and Dead Man's Pass, spending the eerily wind driven rainy evening adjacent Emigrant Springs with nary a soul nearby less our own.

Once the sun arose on All Saints Day, we wandered among the wildflowers and register rocks in La Grande and enjoyed a modern pioneer family's breakfast amid the empty graves at the Chinese Cemetery in Baker City, while a whirring, whirling windmill played its spooky music off in the distance.

We continued our eastward trek beyond the border into Payette where we savored an incredible view high atop the only cross-blessed 'high point' in the small town. From there, we enjoyed the rushing waters of the Snake River while we sought out missing 'speak the language' but did manage to spot several beaver-worn trees just a few gnaws away from a tumble into the rushing waters. We then enjoyed the slower, but still rushing, waters of the Boise River where we sought out a little ladybug and then eventually marvelled at the wonderful aromas wafting from Leonardo's 'Scentamental Romeo' himself--Pepe. All in all a lovely trek east along the Oregon Trail. Perhaps photos will follow in the future...

All Saint's Eve trek toward Boise!

What in Sam Hill is this doing here???

High atop the Northern bluff overlooking the majestic Columbia River lies an incredible tribute to Washington's fallen heroes. Check it out sometime. It's quite humbling in more ways than one!

As pert as a ruttin' buck

Look who came to play in our backyard!!! His 'paramour' was about 10 feet away, hiding beneath the Ham Radio antenna (I cropped out of the photo)--with a headache?

It's Official!!!

I received my diploma in the mail earlier today. It's official! I graduated from the course that ensnarled me the entire summer. That was the last 'mandatory' course I have to take for my profession. Anything from now on will be voluntary and only icing on the cake. Woo Hoo!!!

Sandy deluge

We headed down to Oregon yesterday to spend some time wandering around Oxbow Park along the bend in the Sandy River in Gresham. We enjoyed meeting our friends there and eventually went for a hike. After about an hour of hiking we got caught in our first deluge of the season. trkr & I had gore tex on, rnrB did not & again she learned that ever recurring lesson that one must always prepare for the inevitable rains in the Pacific Northwest in October.

I've spent much of today reading a book "Forest for the Trees" about writing, editing and publishing. Quite interesting. I may end up purchasing the book myself so I can finish it at home.
