Falling to the sea...
Jeongbang Waterfall
From Seongsan, we continued our day's adventure by heading West back toward Seogwipo and eventually made it to Jeongbang Waterfalls--on the Eastern edge of Seogwipo. Jeongbang Falls has the unique title of being the only waterfall in Asia to fall directly into the sea. Depending on what brochures you read, some go so far as to say it's the only waterfall in the world to fall directly in the sea. Now, I'm racking my brain to see if I can think of any others out there that may share this unique feature.
We negotiated the steps down to the lava boulder graced beach and gazed at the gorgeous waterfall. It was impressive! Fortunately, we had the site to ourselves--at least, in the beginning we had the place to ourselves. Within about 30 minutes, we found ourselves surrounded by hundreds of teenaged boys. It appears that the local boys' school (or two or three boys' schools on 'school field trip from the mainland') all had the same idea today to take a field trip to the waterfalls.
As the school boy chaos erupted, we focused on beach-, I mean, lava-boulder combing. I was looking for these tiny flat white spiral shaped seashells. I had this idea that they would make perfect checkers pieces--so I collected up about 30 of them and then found a similarly interesting terra-cotta and black tile that could serve as the opposing side. Unique.
