Pray for Peace!
It's not often when a friend of yours makes the national papers in a photo that will likely earn future international recognition. Recently, while we were enjoying our trip gallavanting about China--a friend of ours was serving on the front lines in Iraq. His patrol came under attack by insurgents just as numerous children were flocking to the area for treats. The attack resulted in the injury and deaths of several innocent bystanders. Immediately after the attack our friend rushed to the aid of a young girl who looks about 3 years old--he scooped her up and was whisking her off to medical attention. The ensuing photo shows him cradling the young, blood-covered girl in his arms and attempting to comfort and console her in a valiant effort to get her to medical aid. It's very obvious that he is deeply touched by the little girl.

Tragically this little girl did not survive. This incident will likely affect him and many others for the rest of their lives. I know it has personally touched me--and I'm only looking at the picture on a tiny computer screen. Please keep him, his family, the family of the young victim and all the other victims of this attack in your prayers. May peace prevail in the region so folks can get back to their families and to their daily lives.
